Broke $1000

Today started off...rather chaotic. I was almost late to work because it was pouring rain and traffic was slow. Oddly enough, I was ten minutes early and one of the first to get to work, so I got to pick my own section. I picked the front booths and a small table. Little did I know the section I thought would be the least busy would be so busy.

My first table was an eleven person reservation.
My second table was a twelve person reservation.
In between I had a two top and a single.

Later, I was kept on in the front rotation, and got a six person reservation birthday. I went above and beyond to make the old woman's birthday great, and they loved me. I had a few other tables here and there too. I never got a full break in between lunch and dinner shifts, so I scarfed down my kids mac and cheese in the back. I started right away with my dinner section, two booths and a small table in the back. I kept going and going and going all night. Had some bitchy people and really tried not to cry throughout the day, I was just really burnt out. I kept up on side work and was the first to do my silver ware rollups because I wanted to get the hell out.

Little to my knowledge, I broke $1000 in sales, making total sales of $1061! I took home $160 in tips.

Also, on the way out one of guys working on the line stopped me and told me since I had helped him out earlier, to take home some crab cakes he made me!! I literally could not have been more happy, after such a long day, and almost having a breakdown, a simple act of kindness turned my day around mentally. All I had done was bring over a to go lid for sauce...and I got crab cakes. Delicious.

So happy to be home in bed right now

Double the Trouble

Today was my first double in over a week!

Lunch was moderately busy and I got kept on for a bit so I picked up an extra table. Then during my break I went to the mall to pick up some clothes I had on hold and for tomorrow. I'm working all day tomorrow, and not even at my restaurant, but for a high school fundraiser, outside, all day. Then I grabbed a bite to eat, and picked up coffee and cigarettes for my co worker. Ha.

When I got back to work, I started within 15 minutes, then part way through the first table, I got double sat. I wanted to punch the hosts. Literally. So dumb sometimes. From then on it was chaotic for maybe half an hour to an hour. Keeping up and getting everyone's orders and drinks is hard when you have two to manage at the same times. Also, tonight was just not my night. I made a few mistakes and such.

Later on I finished my side work and silver ware rollups and left at exactly 10 p.m. I made $121 in tips. Hallelujah.

P.S. In my check presenter not only did I receive a tip, but I also got a 15% off card for Banana Republic!....ok.

The Little Things

It's the little things in the restaurant business that put you over the top as a great server/worker, or make you go crazy.

Today I think I made $40 in tips. I don't remember. Then more work bonding later tonight for a going away party.

I'm getting really lazy with this blog.

Weird Wednesday

Tonight was weird. Ok, but weird. I really don't feel like going into every detail because it's late.
Unrelated to me, but a customer threw up several times on the patio tonight. Thank goodness I was inside! HAHAHAHA.

Old customer of mine from my old job came in on a reservation, mad tips!

Made $65 in tips tonight, better than usual. So excited to go shopping.

Work bonding afterwards at Chili's, also as a going away party for one of our co workers. Lots of weird conversations, hilarious moments, and wishing I was 21 and could have a margarita. Womp. Kept it real with my water and coca cola instead.

What Would Happen If Technology Failed Us?

Today when I got to work I was told to wait to punch in because our system was down. Didn't think too much of it, it got back to working again.

Later on, I was sat with a mini booth, a table, and a larger booth. The table and larger booth got sat relatively at the same time, the mini booth was already eating lunch. I got the table and larger booth's order when the mini booth wanted to pay. I went to go swipe their credit card and it didn't work. I went to swipe another card, and still nothing.

The credit card machines were down.
All the meanwhile, I got sat with another mini booth and they were waiting for who knows how long.
(Insert meltdown mode here.)

I took their order and apologized incessantly and then the other mini booth paid in cash. The credit card issue was still not resolved. Finally entered the other table and booths orders somewhere in that chaos.

I didn't run any food today, that's how crazy things got for me. I feel terrible.

Anyway, managed to finish side work and some silverware rollups, and made $38 (I think?) in tips.

But I got to thinking, what would happen if technology failed us?  In the restaurant business, crash and burn. With a small place like where I used to work I'm sure they would be fine-chaotic-but fine.

And I'm only talking in terms of a digital food ordering system. With a fast paced place like where I work it would be ten times harder. I don't know how they managed in the olden days. LOL olden days...when was that even, though?

Mondayyyy

Got to work to find out I was inside, and not on the patio, first time in a while. I had a good section, 2 booths and a large round. Later on I stayed on in the back and picked up a few more tables. I worked expo..basically by myself. Very productive day, and thank goodness, I made more money than yesterday, $51 in tips today.

Work gossip is getting out of control.

Sunday Funday

When I got to work this morning I was yet again on the patio. Since I got to work almost half an hour early, I opened it by myself. This morning was really slow and I had three tables...total. I did well, but because of the slowness, I only made $20 in tips.

And to other things...over it.
